Once again this year I had THE BEST TIME soaking up the considerable creativity mojo at the Recycled Fashion Show here in Santa Fe. If you haven’t been, it’s a must to put on your repurposed-bucket list. Not only is the fashion show beyond creative and often inspiring, the vendors that are also there are a bunch of cool folk selling their even cooler creations.
While some very capable judges handed out prizes for the winners among the various age categories, here at Santa Fe Street we are not held to the same rigorous criteria: fashion design and random brain firings are all. So here are a few very special standouts, in our own unique (read: totally made up and wierd) categories:
BEST USE FOR OLD UMBRELLAS: Not only is there amazing color and movement to this dress, but it’s…duh…waterproof!
BEST TRANSLATION OF ON-TREND LOOK (CROP TOP): Not only did this girl ride the current fashion wave with total style, but her make-up was beyond fab. Look for it on Queen B any day now.
MOST LIKELY TO BE COVETED BY RuPaul: Made from felt trim from O’Farrell hats, this one had that over-the-top quality that made me think of certain after-hours clubs from back in the day in New York City.
BEST SHAPE: All kidding aside, this girls got a design eye! If she can do this with old Albertsons bags, what could she do with some jade satin? Stay tuned for this one’s future in fashion!
BEST USE FOR OLD FASHION MAGS: Talk about the rustle of a skirt! The peak-a-boo insert was a nice touch, totally in keeping with the material girl.
Until next year…
